Using Technology in the classroom requires great responsibility. When I attended elementary school, technology was gradually being introduced into classrooms. I remember that I learned typing and how to research on computers, but near the end of my elementary school career iPads were starting to be introduced as regular tools within the classroom. These iPads were being used to make videos for projects. At that age, it never occurred to me that teachers needed permission to take photos and videos of students, myself included, in school. It didn’t seem important to me at the time. However, now that I am becoming a teacher and learning about technology, it is extremely important to follow FIPPA. Not all parents want their children to have videos and photos taken of their children at school. There are a variety of reasons that a parent may not want their child to be photographed, some of which may involve the safety of the child. If technology, in the form of recording the child, is a part of the classroom, parental wishes must be respected and other measures are to be discussed and followed.
